WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS BIO –
william’s story…
born the youngest child of two blind parents, william fitzsimmons was raised in the small industrial steel town of pittsburgh, pennsylvania. reared more on sound than sight, wee little fitzy was immersed in classical orchestral and organ works, 1970′s folk, and elementary school recitals and christmas plays. his influences range from simon & garfunkel and nick drake, to contemporaries sufjan stevens, patty griffin, the postal service, and iron & wine. he is a multi-instrumentalist, and self-produced, with a penchant for including pianos, guitars, banjos, melodicas, flutes, clarinets, and electronic elements in his music. william holds a master’s degree in mental health counseling, which largely explains his use of family subject matter in his writing. he has completed 2 full-length, self-released records (“until when we are ghosts,” 2005 and “goodnight,” 2006), from which music has been featured on TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Army Wives.” he has also been featured in the highly regarded music publications Paste Magazine (June 07) and Performing Songwriter Magazine (Sept. 07). He has toured and recorded with ingrid michaelson, and will be performing opening dates for cary brothers this august. in addition to live performance, fitzsimmons is writing for a third, yet to be named album. his records are regularly found on the iTunes top 100 folk albums chart, and both can be purchased from iTunes.
