I’ve been hooking up with a lot of old high school friends on Facebook lately – it seems the entire Tracy High class of 1992 or thereabouts has up and gotten themselves a Facebook account!

Names that haven’t crossed my lips, or mind, in 15 years have once again hit the forefront of my consciousness, and high school memories have been surfacing with regularity the past couple of weeks.

One of the things that struck me was this – many, if not most, of those memories are accompanied by a song. And, mind you, this was even before I really got into music in a big way. How *that* happened is a story for another time! But, in high school, I was actually more into choir music than pop (yes, I was a geek! :D ) .

But, lately, I’ve been remembering Christy Betts from my Junior year French class playing drums with her hands on her desk and singing “Personal Jesus.” Or Freshman year Physical Science class, Lisa Delgadillo doing an over-the-top silly rendition of “Red, Red Wine” to crack kids up. Or Mr. Brown, my cool sophomore year Biology teacher (he’s my Facebook friend, too!) letting us play the radio while we did labs at the end of the year – and one particular day when everyone started singing along with, “Nothing Compares to You.”

It’s amazing to me that so many of my memories are tied in with music, even before I became truly immersed in music intentionally. Music just makes everything richer.

What are some of your music memories?
