this is my favorite section of acousticvids.com - the part where i get to point out and share my favorite clips on the site. clips where cool things happened, unexpected things - and through the magic of technology, they have been preserved and can be shared.

*god*, i love the internet! :)

matt nathanson -there is a light that never goes out - cover - 5/12/-06 - samh, san francsico

this show took place on matt’s wife’s birthday, and he covered this smiths song for her. everybody together now: “aaaawwwwww….” of course, it wouldn’t be a matt performance without a hilarious lead-up, and this one involves preparation h, a heckler, ‘hero’ by enrique iglesias, and elves.

and this is why i love matt. :)

ernie halter - better f. jay nash and zack hexum - 3/18/06 - one2one, austin

ernie playing at the one2one in austin at sxsw, with jay nash and zach hexum, among others. john popper was sitting on the stool next to me while i was taping this. (he kissed my hand later that night, but that’s a whole other story that has nothing to do with the clip. :D)

charles kelley - wake me up - 1/25/06 - plush, fullerton

at a curtis peoples show at plush in fullerton, charles kelley was in attendance and curtis and dave yaden called him up to do a song, which ended up being “wake me up.” there’s some really funny banter at the beginning.

———————————————————–

rebekah jordan - unspoken words f. ernie halter - 8/5/05 - room 5, la

ernie and rebekah doing a duet - how kickass is that? also, it all got hooked up because i introduced them, so that’s additionally kickass. also, this was an amazingly fun night hanging out with ernie and az and my girl delaine, so…kickass on three counts. :) good times!

david ryan harris - boy gets girl saves world - 6/7/06 - hotel cafe, hollywood

david wrote this song for his two year anniversary, and at the beginning he gives a really sweet dedication where he can’t even look over at where sloane is sitting because he’ll get choked up. I LOVE DRH! i dare you to prove to me that he’s not utterly perfect. :D

———————————————————–

paige aufhammer - out of time - 7/9/06 - twiggs, san diego

this night was the first time i saw paige play, when i stayed after tony lucca to check her out. on this particular song, johnny from twigg’s sat in on piano, and, yeah…he’s really kind of great. :) who knew?

———————————————————–

ernie halter - the rest of my life is yours - 2/7/06 - the mint, la

ernie singing a song that he wrote with dave yaden and charles kelley, with introductory banter by dave yaden. you can hear me concert calling stepho in the background. :D

———————————————————–

ernie halter - wade in the water f. dave yaden and darwin johnson - 2/7/06 - the mint, la

this clip is the origin of “inglewood, bitches” so…yeah. :)

———————————————————–

flight of the conchords - the most beautiful girl in the room - 3/17/06 - red-eyed fly, austin

flight of the conchords at sxsw - AAAWWWWEEEEESSSSSOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

———————————————————–

keaton simons - something in the way she moves f. tyler hilton - 2/21/06 - hotel cafe, hollywood

a time at hotel cafe when keaton called up tyler hilton and they did a cover of “something in the way she moves.” pretty cool! :)

———————————————————–

megan slankard - riley - 9/26/05 - temple bar, santa monica

megan slankard and i are from the same small town in northern california’s farm country :D. (tracy, california…holla!). i’ve been watching her since she was in junior high - she used to be on this cable access show called ‘backstage at the orpheus’ or maybe it was orpheum…whatever. at any rate, it was put on by middle school teacher wes huffman, who was married to nan huffman, who taught elementary at the school where i was working as a sign language interpreter. also, as i was researching for the site, i discovered that her yahoo group links to the humor column of one jeff sparkman, aka - my ex-boyfriend…oh, hi, hello small town. :) anyway, seeing her perform at temple bar, where i’ve seen a bunch of my singer songwriter guys (i use that word in the loosest sense, obviously) play, was very cool.

dave yaden - home - 3/10/06 - twiggs, san diego

dave started doing this number acoustic on guitar, but due to technical difficulties, had to abandon the guitar and ended up doing a memorable a capella verson.

———————————————————–

marla sokoloff - ashley f. cindy alexander - 1/28/06 - the mint, la

this was such a great show by kick-ass rocker marla sokoloff! this particular song also features singer-songwriter cindy alexander. when i went to this show and blogged about it at the time on my myspace, marla wrote me a really sweet myspace message and actually offered the clips that i took of the show for download on her webpage. she’s fantastic!

———————————————————–

matt nathanson - sad songs - 5/12/-06 - swedish american music hall, san francsico

let’s just say that matty ends the banter intro-ing this song with the line, “i can’t believe i told the body hair story.” that should be enough to sell it. :D

———————————————————–

tristan prettyman - shy that way f. jason mraz - 2/3/06 - the roxy, la

seeing triz play at the roxy, and she called out mraz to do their duet (as it was right at the tailend of the mraz era). this clip is interesting for three reasons - first, as a sociological experiment. watch how the teenies just lose. their. shit. when mraz comes out. secondly, mraz has a funny little drunk diatribe against the chatty people in the vip section that’s sort of hilarious. lastly…well, it’s tristan, so it can’t be anything but awesome. enjoy it on that count as well. :)
