I have been working through this book for 6 months now. He teaches a progessive method that builds on early exercises and gives you a simple method for playing slide. By default, when I first started playing I made up really complex ways of doing things, and suggests an experienced simplicity. This is not a lick book. But it’s more like a handwriting class that allows you to then write your own stuff. I bought a few books and listened to their acommpanying CDs. But I loved the primitive modal whining of that open G chord which he teaches throughout this book, better than the sound of sliding in standard tuning, or some others variations.

This is the first book I’ve come across that is strictly acoustic slide guitar– not Dobro, peadal steel, or the last chapter of a blues book. I’ve been playing for years, so I could skip over the basic chording and such, but started from the first lesson on the slide. The pictures help a lot for finger positioning to mute and play. The CD is a real help–especially if you aren’t good at reading music. All in all, a really good buy. I’m happy with it, and learning fast.
