101 Slimy Rock Guitar Licks for Twisted Derelicts and Assorted Slimeballs (Book and CD)

Product Description

A superb variety of rock lead guitar licks for fingerboard exploration, technical development, and enjoyment.

Red Dog Music Books is proud to offer this very fine, packed-with-great-licks rock guitar book for your fun and learning enjoyment. This is the perfect book and CD for early intermediates and ambitious near-beginners who are looking for ideas on which to build an interesting and varied rock solo style.

And what a value this book is. The collection contains a goldmine of bite-size licks, all written in notation and tablature, each recorded note-for-note on a companion CD that also includes bass and drums.

Many types of characteristic licks and sounds are included such as major pentatonic, repeating riffs, psychedelic, Mixolydian, harmonized thirds, harmonized fourths, offbeat, octave, background riffs, sequences, triplets, call-response, mellow, blues rock, string bending, country rock, rockabilly, funky, speed licks, hammer-pull licks, straight-picking licks, chord riffs, rhythm-and-blues licks, and more.

The licks are not watered down; some are fairly tricky to play.

No need to work through the examples in chronological order. If a particular example is too difficult, try another one you like and return to the more challenging example later.

While the playing of licks in itself is only part of a complete guitar education, learning licks provides many benefits, including FUN!, advancement of technique, familiarity with the fingerboard, enhanced rhythmic skills, versatility in phrasing, and a more enlightened imagination.

A useful Guide to Scales Used in This Book is included. Scales include major scale, smajor hexatonic scale, major pentatonic scale, ragtime scale, natural minor scale, minor pentatonic scale, blues scale, mixolydian scale, lydian dominant scale, and Spanish scale.

If you have played long enough to discover like many others have that the eight-page solos in the rock guitar magazines are frustrating, impossible, and virtually meaningless, try this book and begin enjoying your guitar playing time again.

The bass lines in this book are found in our 101 Magic Rock Bass Guitar Patterns. Rhythm guitar parts are in our 101 Magic Rock Guitar Rhythm Patterns.

Another excellent, very cool hands-on learning book from Larry McCabe and Red Dog Music Books.
